Memory #5
One summer afternoon, we decided to egg Tony and Ronnie's house. Their mother was German and so, to us, they were strange little boys who always wanted to follow us around the neighborhood. They did stupid stuff like hide behind a skinny little tree during hide and seek, and nobody liked them. About five of us agreed to egg the house: Lisa, the ringleader, my younger brother Billy and me, and a couple more neighbors. We didn't tell our older brother, Jimmy, because we knew he wouldn't like it. Lisa brought the eggs. At the last minute, I wouldn't go because I got chicken. The rest of them did it without me, and when the police came and asked questions, we pretended we didn't know anything about it. Eventually, the police went away. I always felt bad about it. I didn't have the guts to say no in the first place, I didn't have the guts to tell them not to do it, and I didn't even have the guts to egg the house. I was worthless.
